About
I got my first ukulele from my father. It’s a nice middle-of-the-road Supertone Soprano from the 1930’s with a bit of white plastic binding along the neck and around the body of the uke. I’ve seen few like it although Supertone made an awful lot of ukes. It’s original trap-door case is well decorated by my father and did a relatively good job of protecting it’s content while Dad played a couple of state fairs when he was young. My Dad gave me that uke when I was first introduced to them in 7th grade as part of a music class. It even had it’s original gut strings on it. It’s been with me ever since.
After many years of guitars, I once again fell under the uke spell. I wondered about my Dad’s vintage uke and began searching the web for info. Stumbling upon Jim Beloff’s Flea Market Music (www.fleamarketmusic.com), I met like others who also shared my uke interest as well as my developing interest in music from the 1920’s and 1930’s. I finally decided that the Web was actually big enough for more than one uke forum. Spread the joy was my thought. So on September 5, 2003 (22:12 pm CDT to be exact), I started The 4th Peg.
The 4th Peg is a little learning, a little conversation, some interesting links, a few lyrics with uke chords… all in all a bit of this and a bit of that. I hope you enjoy your visit and that you’ll make The 4th Peg a regular stop on your visits of all things ukulele.
Best,
